My Note:  Numbering the ancient Israelites  Ref. Scripture: Numbers  1:1-3 & 1:45-46 & 2:32

The number of the ancient Israelites when they left Egypt in the 1400's B.C.

Scripture:  Numbers 1:1  ¶And the LORD spake unto Moses in the wilderness of Sinai, in the tabernacle of the congregation, on the first day of the second month, in the second year after they were come out of the land of Egypt, saying,
2  Take ye the sum of all the congregation of the children of Israel, after their families, by the house of their fathers, with the number of their names, every male by their polls;
3  From twenty years old and upward, all that are able to go forth to war in Israel: thou and Aaron shall number them by their armies.

Numbers 1:45  So were all those that were numbered of the children of Israel, by the house of their fathers, from twenty years old and upward, all that were able to go forth to war in Israel;
46  Even all they that were numbered were six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty

Numbers 2:32  These are those which were numbered of the children of Israel by the house of their fathers: all those that were numbered of the camps throughout their hosts were six hundred thousand and three thousand and five hundred and fifty.

603,550 all Israelite men able to go forth to war.
Complete text: Read all of Numbers chapters 1 & 2

Even though King David got into trouble with the Lord, for doing it, he counted the number of the ancient Israelites from both houses, Israel and Judah, while he was their king in the 900's B.C.

Scripture:  1 Chronicles 21:5  And Joab gave the sum of the number of the people unto David. And all they of Israel were a thousand thousand and an hundred thousand men that drew sword: and Judah was four hundred threescore and ten thousand men that drew sword.

1,100,000 such men from the House of Israel (the northern kingdom) and 470,000 such men from the House of Judah (the southern kingdom).

A Total of 1,570,000 Israelite men able to go forth to war.
Complete text: Read all of 1 Chronicles 21 and David's troubles with the Lord for counting the people.

The number of the ancient Israelites who returned from captivity in the 500's B.C.

Scripture:   Nehemiah 7:66  The whole congregation together was forty and two thousand three hundred and threescore,
67  Beside their manservants and their maidservants, of whom there were seven thousand three hundred thirty and seven: and they had two hundred forty and five singing men and singing women.

Scripture:  Ezra 2:64  ¶The whole congregation together was forty and two thousand three hundred and threescore,
65  Beside their servants and their maids, of whom there were seven thousand three hundred thirty and seven: and there were among them two hundred singing men and singing women.

42,360 such men from the House of Judah only.
Complete text: Read all of Ezra & Nehemiah

What happened to the rest of the 1,527,640 Israelites taken into captivity by Assyria?  And that was fighting men only plus their women, children and men over fifty five.

That's 1,527,640 Israelites who never returned!

They did not return to Palestine with the Jews in the days of Ezra and Nehemiah,
as some erroneously believe.

Who and where can those lost Israelites be, today?

Those who returned to rebuild the temple and restore worship in Jerusalem,
70 years after Judah's captivity,
were only those of the House of Judah whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried to Babylon.

Note well these facts.

1. In 721 BC Israel was "carried away out of their own land to Assyria" (II Kings :23). They were soon all removed completely. There was none left but some from the tribe of Judah (II Kings 17:18).

2. More than 130 years later, Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon carried the remaining Jews (Judah) who only remained in the Promised Land away to Babylon.  The Israelites from the House of Israel did not dwell in the Promised Land at the time of this captivity of Judah.

3. Those who returned to Palestine to rebuild the temple and restore worship 70 years after Judah's captivity were all of the House of Judah, all Jews, all of those whom Nebuchadnezzar had carried away. These 42,360 returned again unto Jerusalem and Judah, "every one unto his city in Judah" Non to the cities of Israel (Ezra 2:1). Only those of the tribes of Judah, Benjamin and Levi, who constituted the house of Judah returned at that time (Ezra 1:5).

Consequently those in Jerusalem in the time of Christ were of these three tribes,
but not of the House of Israel,
except for those few individuals of the other tribes who joined Judah for religious reasons
after the nation divided into two nations upon the death of Solomon.

The House of Israel became known as the Ten Lost Tribes!

By what name are they known today?
Whoever they are, wherever they are, it is they,
and not the Jews, who are the birthright possessors.
It is they, not the Jews, who, after the ending of their punishment in the 18th and 19th centuries A.D.
must inherit the unbreakable promises to Abraham of national greatness, resources, wealth and power.

It is Manasseh who, after A.D. 1800,
was to become the world's greatest single nation,
and Ephraim a great commonwealth of nations!

Matthew 10:5  ¶These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:
6  But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

Matthew 15:21  ¶Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the coasts of Tyre and Sidon.
22  And, behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same coasts, and cried unto him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, thou Son of David; my daughter is grievously vexed with a devil.
23  But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.
24  But he answered and said, I am not sent but unto the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
25  Then came she and worshipped him, saying, Lord, help me.
26  But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast it to dogs.
27  And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall from their masters' table.
28  Then Jesus answered and said unto her, O woman, great is thy faith: be it unto thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was made whole from that very hour.

John 10:1  ¶Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a robber.
2  But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep.
3  To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.
4  And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.
5  And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers.
6  This parable spake Jesus unto them: but they understood not what things they were which he spake unto them.
7  Then said Jesus unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the door of the sheep.
8  All that ever came before me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them.
9  I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture.
10  The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
11  I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.
12  But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep.
13  The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep.
14  I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine.
15  As the Father knoweth me, even so know I the Father: and I lay down my life for the sheep.
16  And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear my voice; and there shall be one fold, and one shepherd.
17  Therefore doth my Father love me, because I lay down my life, that I might take it again.
18  No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father.

Again we ask
Who and where can those lost Israelites be, today?

Think America and Great Britain!
That's where the descendants of those 1,527,640 Israelites are today.
They think they are Gentiles!
But, Jesus knows who they are and many of them hear and recognize His voice! John 10:14-16
