The Book of Isaiah
Chapter 11

One of the important lessons we have already learned in this great book of Isaiah concerning our Father's wondrous plan of salvation for all of His children is that there are Two Tribulations in these last days. The first is the tribulation of Satan at the sound of the 6th Trump, which is when he comes to earth as the coming of the false king, the false messiah, who deceives the whole world and causes the multitudes of God's people, the house of Israel, to spiritually fall before his mighty sword! Of course we know that it is God's plan to use the Assyrian, an alias for Satan, as the "rod of His anger" and chastisement against those children who have forsaken His Word to follow after the ways and idolatrous traditions of men.

Isaiah 10:5
O Assyrian, the rod of mine anger, and the staff in their hand is mine indignation.
This is a divine summons, a decree that our Father will use the Assyrian as His rod of correction to chastise His people as part of the "outstretching of His hand" against an impious and godless nation, even against His own children who cannot tell the difference between the "profane" and the "holy" and thus cannot discern between the "unclean" and the "clean". And make no mistake about it! The Assyrian comes before we gather back to Jesus Christ at the sound of the 7th Trump which Paul makes VERY CLEAR in 2 Thessalonians 2:1-4.
[6] I will send him against an hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets.
Can you "see" how easy our Father has made it for us to understand the great spiritual tribulation of Satan by giving us historical types, such as the ensample of the Assyrian we have been reading about here in Isaiah, so there can be no doubt about what shall take place in the final generation (1 Cor. 10:11)? Take heed therefore to that which our Father had written for our admonition and understanding... lest you "think" you are in good standing with the Lord because some preacher told you so and assured you that you are going to be "raptured away" before the tribulation when Satan comes on the scene. For if you believe soothsaying men instead of listening to His Voice then you shall surely stumble and fall in the great spiritual onslaught known as the great apostasy in these last days. 1 Cor. 10:12 "Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heedlest he fall."

The second tribulation we read about, which occurs after the Assyrian and his locust army have made the land (spiritually) desolate at which point our Father is going to lop off the boughs of the Assyrian, that old box-cedar spoken of in Ezekiel 31, and hew down all the lofty trees. This happens at the sound of the 7th Trump and you know what? It won't take very long at all for the Almighty to smash the beast and his idolatrous system, the New World Order, and cause EVERY KNEE to bow before Him... which they shall... for it is written and so it shall be!

Isaiah 45:23
I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear.
Paul even quoted this verse from Isaiah in the New Testament.
Romans 14:11
For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God.
That will be the time when as it is written "there shall come forth a "rod" out of the stem of Jesse", the Branch, Yahshua Messiah, to execute justice in all the earth and gather His people back together. And that brings us to Isaiah 11:1.
Isaiah 11:1
And there shall come forth a rod out of the stem of Jesse, and a Branch shall grow out of his roots:
This is the child that was born, the Son given unto us (Isa. 9:6), who came at the first advent to pay the price for our sins and bring salvation to whosoever will but who is coming at the second advent to take over the reigns of all governments and to rule ALL nations with a rod of iron (Rev. 12:5).
Isaiah 9:6
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Rev. 12:5
And she brought forth a man child, who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron: and her child was caught up unto God, and to his throne.

There can be no lasting peace on earth until the Prince of Peace comes and establishes His kingdom, the kingdom of righteousness, "on earth as it is heaven".
Isaiah 11:2
And the spirit of the LORD shall rest upon him, the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and might, the spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the LORD;
This is what must be present, i.e. the Holy Spirit of God, in order to have true and lasting peace. And so it is that the King of kings and Lord of lords shall come forth to rule all nations with a rod of iron, which means with adherence to righteousness, the Word of God, to the point that the whole earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD. It is written (Isa. 11:9)... and so shall it be, and when that comes to pass there shall be peace and harmony in all the earth.

Did you notice the seven spirits given in the verse we just read? The number "7" in Biblical numerics is the number of spiritual completeness or spiritual perfection (see appendix 10 in the Companion Bible).

1. Spirit of the LORD
2. Wisdom
3. Insight
4. Counsel
5. Strength
6. Knowledge
7. Reverence

You will also find the seven spirits of God listed in Rev. 5:12 and again in Rev. 7:12.

Isaiah 11:3
And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and He shall not judge after the sight of His eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of His ears:
He judges in righteousness with the spirit of wisdom and knowledge, delighting always in the reverence and obedience of the LORD.  That means He will not judge by appearances nor convict someone by hearsay nor shall He judge in partiality for as it is written, "God is no respecter of persons". Acts 10:34 "Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons." Thus as it is written, even in the next verse, the poor and humble shall be judged with the same righteous standards as everyone else. So if you "have it coming to you", no matter what your social or economic status may be, you are going to receive your just recompense. There shall be no more of this "buying your freedom" by hiring the best attorneys or having the outcome of a trial determined by unjust precedence.

Isn't it comforting know that our Father is completely just and fair to everyone? Furthermore, if what you have coming to you is deserving of reward, then you will likewise receive what you have coming to you!

[4] But with righteousness shall he judge the poor, and reprove with equity for the meek of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lips shall he slay the wicked.
The "rod of His mouth" is His sword (Rev. 1:16), the Word of Righteousness, with which He shall slay the wicked lawless one, i.e. Satan, and all those who follow after him and worship the beast and his image.
Rev. 19:15
And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and He shall rule them with a rod of iron: and He treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God.
Those who allow themselves to be deceived by the false messiah and who put their faith and trust in the New World Order that he has set up, are going to get a "thumping" from their heavenly Father who is not very happy with them.
Rev. 14:9-10
And the third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, If any man worship the beast and his image, and receive his mark in his forehead, or in his hand,

[10] The same shall drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out without mixture into the cup of his indignation; and he shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb:

Remember that "God is a consuming fire (Heb. 12:29) and those who are the recipients of the pouring out of His wrath are going to be "broken to shivers" with the rod of iron, which is to say they shall "feel the heat" from the "fire"!
Psalm 2:9
Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.
Did you know that the overcomers of the beast shall rule with Christ for a thousand years as kings and priests (Rev. 20:4, 6)? They shall reign over the nations and execute His truth and justice with a "rod of iron"? Jesus quoted Ps. 2:9 in Rev. 2:27 where He was addressing the members of the church of Thyatira who overcome.
Rev. 2:27
And he shall rule them with a rod of iron; as the vessels of a potter shall they be broken to shivers: even as I received of my Father.
You "see", His saints, the Zadok, those kings and priests who are His elect, shall be clothed with His righteousness even as He is "clothed" with righteousness which He shall faithfully execute in all the earth!
Isaiah 11:5
And righteousness shall be the girdle of His loins, and faithfulness the girdle of His reins.
The girdle is that which gathers together and holds up one's garments. If you are to be a follow of Jesus Christ and an overcomer of the beast and his image in these last days, then you too must have your loins girded about with righteousness, which is the truth of His Holy Word.
Ephes. 6:14
Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
It is that gospel armor, His truth and His righteousness, the Word of God, that is your clothing! Therefore at the coming of the Lord you will either be "clothed in righteousness" or you shall stand naked and ashamed "before the presence of the holy angels, and in the presence of the Lamb". The choice is yours! Are you a wise virgin who listens to your Father's Word or a fool who listens to men teach their traditions without checking out what they teach, their "winds of doctrine" in the Word of God... to see whether or not it is of God (1 John 4:1)?

Group One: Those wise virgins clothed with righteousness, full of His Spirit from the wisdom and knowledge of His Word.

Rev. 19:8
And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints.
Group Two: Those foolish virgins who have not kept His Word, i.e. kept their garments, but have chosen to ignore His Word and follow after the traditions of men. They are therefore void of the wisdom and knowledge of His Word, i.e. His righteousness, and thus even though they cry Lord, Lord, they walk naked and shall be ashamed.
Rev. 16:15
Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.
Yes, how "Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints (Rev. 15:3)". When the Prince of Peace has come and the earth is full of the knowledge of the LORD, then shall there be true peace and harmony in all the earth as there shall be nothing that shall be allowed to offend. This is the birth of a new age, the Millennium, a new dispensation brought forth from the labor pangs now taking place in this final generation that are increasing both in frequency and strength.
Isaiah 11:6
The wolf also shall dwell with the lamb, and the leopard shall lie down with the kid; and the calf and the young lion and the fatling together; and a little child shall lead them.
Since these natural enemies are not now lying down and dwelling peacefully together, this is obviously speaking of the peace and harmony that shall take place during the Millennial reign of Jesus Christ and His saints. Of course on the first level one could use this verse to show that there will be animals in the Millennium, which there shall be, but on a deeper level this is referring to the predatory "beasts" of earth, the wolf, the leopard, and the lion, who now hunt and prey on the defenseless, e.g. lambs and kids! A short study of Jeremiah 5:16 will put it into perspective for us.
Jeremiah 5:1-6
Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be any that executeth judgment, that seeketh the truth; and I will pardon it.

[2] And though they say, The LORD liveth; surely they swear falsely.

They cry Lord, Lord (Mat. 7:21-23), but instead of studying and following the Word of God, they listen to men and follow their vain (empty) traditions thereby giving their alliance to the false king, the false messiah! You "see", they do not know Jesus Christ, the Living Word of God, because they do not know the Written Word of God. You simply cannot separate one from the other so don't say you love the Lord if you ignore His Word. John 14:15 "If ye love me, keep my commandments." 2 Tim. 2:15 "Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth."
[3] O LORD, are not thine eyes upon the truth? thou hast stricken them, but they have not grieved; thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.
They are a hard-headed and rebellious people who refuse to return to His Word! If only they would soften their hearts (minds) and return to the mountain to "hear His voice"! Hebrews 4:7 "Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts."
[4] Therefore I said, Surely these are poor; they are foolish: for they know not the way of the LORD, nor the judgment of their God.
[5] I will get me unto the great men, and will speak unto them; for they have known the way of the LORD, and the judgment of their God: but these have altogether broken the yoke, and burst the bonds.
The wise know the way of the LORD but the foolish have totally estranged themselves from Him! Therefore He shall chastise them... remember Isaiah 10:6 ..."I will send him (the Assyrian) against an hypocritical nation, and against the people of my wrath will I give him a charge, to take the spoil, and to take the prey, and to tread them down like the mire of the streets." This is that same spiritual onslaught of Satan, that old "serpent" from the garden and his locust army who come against our people to make the land (spiritually) desolate. It is part of His judgment upon His people because of their disobedience to Him!
[6] Wherefore a lion out of the forest shall slay them, and a wolf of the evenings shall spoil them, a leopard shall watch over their cities: every one that goeth out thence shall be torn in pieces: because their transgressions are many, and their backslidings are increased.
The good news is however, that when Yahshua returns He shall put a stop to the "hurting" activities of the kenites, also known as wolves, leopards, and lions, and of course that old low life serpent, the devil himself, shall be bound in the pit for the thousand years (Rev. 20:2). You "see", both the lamb and wolf shall "feed" from the same trough at that time and that trough is the Word of God. And as we read in Isaiah 11:6, a "little child" shall lead them both... to the pasture. That little child is a child of God, one of His elect, a just one (Zadok), who shall teach His people the difference between the "holy" and the "profane"!
Ezekiel 44:23-24
And they shall teach my people the difference between the holy and profane, and cause them to discern between the unclean and the clean.

[24] And in controversy they shall stand in judgment; and they shall judge it according to my judgments: and they shall keep my laws and my statutes in all mine assemblies; and they shall hallow my sabbaths.

And so it is that during the Millennium that the truth and knowledge of God's Word shall go forth to all peoples and nations and even the kenites shall "feed" together with the "lambs" and there shall be no more "hurt" nor "desolation" among His people in His Holy Mountain (nation). We will cover this again when we get to the 65th chapter.
Isaiah 65:25
The wolf and the lamb shall feed together, and the lion shall eat straw like the bullock: and dust shall be the serpent's meat. They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain, saith the LORD.
And by the way, you will find this same thing written in another manner in Christ's address to the Church of Philadelphia in Rev. 3:9.
Rev. 3:9
Behold, I will make them of the synagogue of Satan, which say they are Jews, and are not, but do lie; behold, I will make them to come and worship before thy feet, and to know that I have loved thee.
This does NOT say that the kenites will worship you, but rather that they shall come and worship the Lord before whose feet you shall be. Let us now continue in Isaiah 11.
Isaiah 11:7
And the cow and the bear shall feed; their young ones shall lie down together: and the lion shall eat straw like the ox.
"Lions" are naturally carnivorous but they shall no longer devour "prey" but shall graze like the ox. By the way, students of the Word know that we will not be in "flesh and blood" bodies during the Millennium but rather in our spiritual bodies, for as it is written in the 50th verse of 1 Cor. 15, the chapter where Paul documents that we have two bodies, a natural (earthly) one and a spiritual (heavenly) one, "... flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; neither doth corruption inherit incorruption."
[8] And the sucking child shall play on the hole of the asp, and the weaned child shall put his hand on the cockatrice' den.
You "see", Satan that old viper, shall be bound and kicked in the asp "hole", the pit, during the Millennium, and he shall not be allowed to harm or seduce the "weaned child". In fact a few verses hence we shall see how Satan, the old asp shall be looked upon by the weaned child in the Millennium.
Isaiah 14:15-16
Yet thou (Satan) shalt be brought down to hell, to the sides of the pit.

[16] They that see thee shall narrowly look upon thee, and consider thee, saying, Is this the man that made the earth to tremble, that did shake kingdoms;

To "look upon narrowly" is a figure of speech meaning they will not think too much of this low life! And by the way, a "weaned child" is a child who no longer is sucking on "milk" but rather is mature in the Word of God which we have seen shall abound in all the earth during the Millennium. Read Hebrew 5:12-14 and you will understand. Hebrews 5:13 "For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe."

And so it is that there shall be no more "hurt" nor "desolation" in all the earth by the desolator and his band of merry locusts for when the King of kings and Lord of lords comes to this earth both truth and justice shall flow like mighty rivers from beneath His throne and cover all the earth as the waters cover the sea. The great part of all this is that adherence to His Word naturally brings peace and happiness and blessings galore (Deut. 28:1-14).

Isaiah 11:9
They shall not hurt nor destroy in all my holy mountain: for the earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.
When the King of kings returns to take over the reins of government, the purpose for which He was born (Isaiah 9:6), He shall gather back His children to His holy mountain and that "One Nation Under God" shall be lifted up as a light unto all nations.
[10] And in that day there shall be a root of Jesse, which shall stand for an ensign of the people; to it shall the Gentiles seek: and His rest shall be glorious.
An ensign is a standard and it is unto that glorious city on "Mount Zion" that all nations shall flow for the Glory of the Lord shall be present there. And so it shall be that the Millennium, which is the Lord's Day, the Sabbath, His rest, shall be glorious indeed. You "see", Jesus Christ is our Sabbath (rest) and when you have His spirit of truth and wisdom and knowledge of His Word, then you indeed have already entered into His glorious rest. Paul documents for us that Joshua only gave a type, a shadow of rest to our forefathers when they entered into the promised land, because only Yahshua can provide true and lasting rest, i.e. it is a spiritual matter. That means that the true rest (sabbath) we seek cannot to be found in a day but rather only in Jesus Christ, who is our Sabbath. If you are still not a weaned child (Heb. 5:13) then you may have some difficulty with this though Paul could not have explained it any clearer in Hebrews 4:7-10.
Hebrews 4:7-10
Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.

[8] For if Jesus [Joshua] had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day.

[9] There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
Did you know that you can enter into His rest right now?
[10] For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from His.
Nevertheless, at the sound of the 7th Trump when Jesus Christ returns and "the kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord, and of his Christ; and he shall reign for ever and ever (Rev. 11:15)", then He shall rise up to be a banner of salvation for all people and all nations (gentiles) and as we read in Isa. 11:10, His rest shall be glorious indeed. Paul also quotes Isa. 11:10 in the great book of Romans!
Romans 15:12
And again, Esaias saith, There shall be a root of Jesse, and He that shall rise to reign over the Gentiles; in Him shall the Gentiles trust.
What a time we have to look forward to! So do not let the trials and tribulations of this present age even remotely compare to the glory that shall be revealed when our Lord and Savior returns.
Isaiah 11:11
And it shall come to pass in that day, that the Lord shall set his hand again the second time to recover the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria, and from Egypt, and from Pathros, and from Cush, and from Elam, and from Shinar, and from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea.
This is yet future prophecy that speaks of the gathering back of His people after the Lord lops off the boughs of the Assyrian and hews down all the lofty trees and burns with fire the one world system and all the evil rudiments extant upon the earth (2 Pet. 3:10, 12)! As it is written, He shall gather His elect from the four winds and from the four corners of the earth, and so shall they be with Him forever more. Mark 13:27 "And then shall he send his angels, and shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from the uttermost part of the earth to the uttermost part of heaven."

If you look at a map of the nations and geographical locations given in this verse, you will find that they encompass Jerusalem from the North, South, East, and West, i.e. in all directions including the islands of the sea, meaning all the countries from the far western regions beyond the sea . And FYI for the deeper student, Pathros means "region of the south", Cush is Ethiopia, Elam is in Persia east of Shinar and means "eternity", Hamath means "fortress" and Shinar means "country of two rivers"!

[12] And he shall set up an ensign for the nations, and shall assemble the outcasts of Israel, and gather together the dispersed of Judah from the four corners of the earth.
Again, He is going to raise up the standard for the salvation of the nations (Yahveh's salvation) as He gathers His people together from the four corners of the earth. It shall also be at this time that the two houses, the house of Israel and the house of Judah which are now two separate houses, shall be joined back together into one stick (branch). You will find that documented in the 37th chapter of Ezekiel.
[13] The envy also of Ephraim shall depart, and the adversaries of Judah shall be cut off: Ephraim shall not envy Judah, and Judah shall not vex Ephraim.
There will no more civil strife or civil wars, including the civil cultural wars that are taking place within our nations today, for the House of Israel and the House of Judah shall stand together on His holy mountain and keep the light of truth burning bright forever more!
[14] But they shall fly upon the shoulders of the Philistines toward the west; they shall spoil them of the east together: they shall lay their hand upon Edom and Moab; and the children of Ammon shall obey them.
Again, the Prince of Peace shall rule all nations with a rod of iron, which is with adherence to His Word of righteousness, and that rod shall be executed by His kings and priests (including the kings and queens of the ethnos) who shall rule "with Him" for a thousand years. No longer shall the heathen nations spoil and take prey and reign over God's people, for His elect shall be looking over the nation's shoulders and they shall "fly upon their shoulders" when they begin "raising Cain"! You "see", those who carry the rod will see to it that there is no more oppression and captivity, symbolized by Egypt, or "red" communist governments, symbolized by Edom, for all nations shall obey the laws and statutes of the Lord God, for as it is written, the "earth shall be full of the knowledge of the LORD as the waters cover the sea (Isaiah 11:9)".
[15] And the LORD shall utterly destroy the tongue of the Egyptian sea; and with his mighty wind shall he shake his hand over the river [Euphrates], and shall smite it in the seven streams, and make men go over dryshod.
The "tongue of the Egyptian sea" means the gulf of the Red Sea, which was the major obstacle in the path of the Israelites, the likes of which only the power and strength of the LORD God could make a path for them to cross over and escape the pursuing armies of Pharaoh! And the river Euphrates, which has always been the river that divides God's people from Babylon, shall be smitten into "7" streams laying bare much dryshod thereby making the way easy for His people to leave (come out of) Babylon and come home to Him. Yes, the mighty Spirit (ruach) of God, shall still the raging seas and calm the torrent rivers as Jesus Christ provides a way, a path, a true roadmap for peace and safety and prosperity for ever and ever! Yahveh's Salvation!
[16] And there shall be an highway for the remnant of his people, which shall be left, from Assyria; like as it was to Israel in the day that he came up out of the land of Egypt.
The fact is, for it is written, that the Assyrian is soon coming upon the land in hot pursuit of God's people, but just like when Pharaoh pursued the children of Israel and they were backed up against the raging waters of the Red Sea, your heavenly Father will provide a way, an highway of firm dry ground, upon which you can escape the slaughter of the enemy's sword and crossover to His rest.

And the best news of all is that that highway is before you now... if you will only turn to Him, to His Word, and hear His voice and trust in the Lord thy God.

To study the Bible is the noblest of all pursuits; to understand it, the highest of all goals.
We pray that with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, you accomplish both.
